HCIL shifts Honda City production to Tapukara
Date: 05 Aug 2014
Japanese
car maker Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL)is shifting the entire production of
the new Honda City to its Tapukara plant in Alwar district of Rajasthan. Thus, there will be no production of the
Honda City in the month of August 2014. The production of Honda City will
resume in first week of September 2014.
The decision to shift the City model
production to Tapukara was made following increased demand for all its models
in the country. Moreover, the company has commenced the production of the recently
launched mid-size MPV Honda Mobilio at the Greater Noida plant. The Tapukara
plant has an installed capacity of 1,20,000 units per annum and is currently
running on single shift. It is currently producing the Honda Amaze since
February 2014 when the assembly operations began in this plant.
Jnaneswar
Sen, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales Honda Cars India, said that the
shift of City production to Tapukara will ensure better availability and timely
deliveries of Honda City and the newly launched Mobilio. “We have received an
overwhelming response to both the City and the Mobilio, and it is necessary to
maximise production at both the plants for the benefit of the customer,” he
stated.
The
cumulative sales of Honda City for January - July 2014 period stood at 53,605
units. The Tapukara plant is spread over 450 acres. The integrated manufacturing
unit at Tapukara includes all functions of forging, press shop, powertrain
shop, weld shop, paint shop, plastic moulding, engine assembly, frame assembly
and engine testing facility.
